The sad truth is that most people purchase car insurance without knowing exactly what they're buying. Stay informed by reviewing the various types of car coverage below!
Liability: Covers injury or damage to any person or property you may injure or damage. This coverage is usually split between Bodily Injury and Property Damage.
Physical Damage: Covers damage to your own car. Physical damage coverage contains a deductible requirement. Deductibles are usually split between Collision and Comprehensive (aka Other Than Collision).
"Full Coverage": Many people are under the impression that "Full Coverage" covers everything under the Sun. Unfortunately, that is NOT TRUE. While we're not sure exactly where the term "full coverage" originated, we are sure that it doesn't include every type of coverage available for cars. The term "Full Coverage" usually refers to Liability + Physical Damage coverage.
Uninsured Motorist: Takes the place of liability coverage for a driver who is uninsured. Like Liability coverage mentioned above, this coverage is also split between Bodily Injury and Property Damage.
Medical Payments: Covers medical expenses for drivers and their passengers.
Rental Reimbursement: Covers expenses arising from renting a car, should yours be in the shop for repairs after an accident.
Towing/Roadside Assistance: Provides towing and other roadside needs should your car break down on the road.
Note: If you're financing or leasing a car, you'll need to have Physical Damage coverage.
